Vision and Future

Dear Readers! Firstly, thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. The goal of this newsletter is to spread awareness of climate education and climate action without barriers. We aim to bring inclusivity and diversity to climate education and action in Austria and beyond. Our working language is English, and we are working on getting other languages on board. If you would like to provide us with feedback, you can email us or complete an anonymous form.

her story

Prague

Now that that is out of the way, we would like to introduce our newsletter editor and founder, Donna York. Donna is not from Austria, but Austria is now her home. She was born and raised in the United States (namely Atlanta) to a Nigerian father and Black American mother. Before coming to Austria, she worked and lived in Nepal, South Korea, France, Switzerland, Slovakia, and Switzerland. After getting her Master’s at MIIS and working in Washington, D.C., she moved to Austria for her next challenge. There, she learned to master the German language and survive life as a vegan in a small town. Other than traveling, she likes to sing karaoke, dance Afrobeat, cross-stitch, and hike. You can see her on LinkedIn here.

What is happenin’?

In Vienna, Grüne Bildungswerkstatt and the African Cultural Foundation teamed up and hosted a “Decolonize our Climate: Voices from the Global South” event featuring a panel, workshops, and a film. The events took place from October 3-5 at Depot Wien. Although the team could not make it, we support all ways to make the climate space more inclusive in Austria.

In Innsbruck, CO: ACT, an initiative by the Impact Hub, gathered people from all over to not only talk about change, but also make it happen. On October 2-3, the Impact Hub hosted a two-day forum on Finance, Politics, Climate Action, and more. Let’s make real change, now! Hope to see you all next year.

Global News

Sound the alarm. Or not, go outside and touch grass for a second because devastating climate news just hit again. Rising global sea temperatures just reached a tipping point for coral reefs. Coral reefs are like the heartbeat of the ocean; many marine animals rely on them for shelter, food, and life. The ocean temperatures are so warm that coral reefs have been depleted to the point of no return. As we all know, nature doesn't stop there. Rising temperatures can melt ice caps, increase sea levels, and more. At this rate, we expect this to happen next.
